چکیده

We study the effects of input variability on choice reaction time (choice-RT) models under the two-alternative, forced choice paradigm. We test the well known and widely used (by choice-RT models) assumption that slower errors are produced under higher input-strength variability conditions (between blocks of trials). Two experiments, featuring a ‘numerosity task’, are presented. Analysis of the data from 46 participants, considering the difference between mean error RT and mean correct RT, across input-strength variability conditions, produced weak support for the hypothesis. Further analyses of complete RT distributions, per participant, strongly disfavors the hypothesis’ predictions. We argue that the evidence presented by this work is enough to render more detailed investigation on choice-RT models. 1 Partially supported by a Summer ’03 Fellowship awarded to the first author by both the Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the School of Social Sciences. 2 Send correspondence to Institute for Mathematical Behavioral Sciences. 3161 SSPA, University of California, Irvine, 92697-5100. Modeling 2-alternative forced-choice tasks: Accounting for both magnitude and difference effects.

We present a model-based analysis of two-alternative forced-choice tasks in which two stimuli are presented side by side and subjects must make a comparative judgment (e.g., which stimulus is brighter). Stimuli can vary on two dimensions, the difference in strength of the two stimuli and the magnitude of each stimulus. Differences between the two stimuli produce typical RT and accuracy effects ...

The Effects of Task Orientation and Involvement Load on Learning Collocations

This study examined the effects of input-oriented and output-oriented tasks with different involvement load indices on Iranian EFL learners' comprehension and production of lexical collocations. To achieve this purpose, a sample of 180 intermediate-level EFL learners (both male and female) participated in the study. The participants were in six experimental groups. Each of the groups was random...

A Race Model of Perceptual Forced Choice Reaction Time

Some of the most successful models for describing reaction time distributions assume a single accumulator with two response boundaries. As an alternative, we present a race model having two accumulators, one for the correct response and one for the incorrect response. For a forced-choice paradigm, these two accumulators correspond to parallel processing of the target and foil stimuli. We applie...

Speed and Accuracy of Visual Motion Discrimination by Rats

Animals must continuously evaluate sensory information to select the preferable among possible actions in a given context, including the option to wait for more information before committing to another course of action. In experimental sensory decision tasks that replicate these features, reaction time distributions can be informative about the implicit rules by which animals determine when to ...

Atomic diffusion modeling and Investigation of joining properties of TLP in AA2024 to AA6061 alloys

In this study, to bond AA2024 and AA6061 alloys to each other, three elements (Sn, Zn and Ga)  were considered as interlayer elements in terms of atomic diffusion depth in the base metal and storage at 453°C for 2 days, 10 hours, 210 minutes, and 30 seconds that they were examined for atomic diffusion modeling. Finally, the two alloys were connected at a temperature of 453°C in a furnace enviro...
